I am a Fashion lover,
Stylist, and Beauty Blogger and from South Africa.
I am currently the official
stylist for the South African band ISO and work as a freelance fashion stylist
in Gauteng.I adore singing, music, homemade
good cooking, and my boys. Growing up in Cape Town in the
early 90's to a pastor father and church singing mother in a small community
means that your association with clothing is going to be a little more old
school growing up.There was a lot of emphasis on
what we wore, dressing respectfully, and having a flair for occasion. Sundays were for fancy dresses
and special Sunday shoes which meant that Saturdays were for Sunday prep. Doing
your hair and getting it straight and sleek even if it took hours was
essential.I even remember going to the
airport and having to dress nicely for it.Christmas outfits were picked
long in advanced and paid off if we couldn't afford it. No matter the cost, you
had to look your best.Christmas outfits were not just
for the morning church service either, you had an outfit for lunch and present
giving with the family too. Everything had a sense of
occasion attached to it. I like to think that these
influences I grew up with are still some of my favourite fashion principles and
inspirations for who I am now. I still change more than once or twice a day
depending on what I'm doing, I've always loved singing, Sundays are still fancy
dress days, and occasions are when I love to play dress up the most. I love
fashion and style, I love being part of the process of styling and creating a
concept around a person, band, or client, and I love makeup, beauty, and
photography which are all connected to this exciting field. My favourite source of
inspiration is Vintage Fashion. I enjoy looking into the past and recreating
looks for myself. I enjoy mixing everything up from the 20's-60's era,
Flappers, Jazz era, 90's Grunge, to trendy and hip new styles and fashion. My
sense of style came from my parents and upbringing and a love of sitting and
looking through old pictures.I remember the first time I saw these pictures of my mother and father,
there was something about these photographs, the way they were shot, the film,
the colouring, that made me fall in love with this style and era
This picture is one of my biggest fashion and style inspirations of all time! I've been dying to do a shoot and recreate this look. I just need an adorable little preppy outfit like this and some killer white platform heels.
Its not just the clothes that made me fall in love with these pictures, its how in love they were, how full of life and promise they were, and how they lived their lives in their garments that makes it such an inspiration.
Enjoy my blog, Happy reading!
