Flatbread with Vegetable Topping: Easy meals for less

28.11.14 /

I love being in the kitchen- cooking is one of my great loves and I love spoiling people and treating them to a meal. My boys are also huge fans of my cooking and it's always great to cook for people who love the food you make!

Aside for being amped whenever I'm cooking for them, my husband and son also love cooking with me which i'll never get tired of. Food tastes so much better when you've put some love and joy into it.

If there's one thing Marko and Zach like it's pizza! I've never seen people eat pizza like they can. Marko also has a great love for bread. Being Serbian means that you are use to bread in your diet as a part of your food culture. Visiting his family in Italy was the first time I've ever seen people eat so much pasta with a huge side order of bread. It was amazing! Guilt free starch overloading has never been so good! Although we are keen on eating healthy balanced meals we also love to indulge in some tasty wheat...and why not! I truly believe that everything in moderation is key and that you have to enjoy and spoil yourself with food- it makes you happy!

Last night we were in the mood for something light and fun for us all to make. Flat bread and pizzas are so easy to make at home and so much better than just getting take-out. So we decided on a flat bread with a few toppings.

How to make your flat bread:

  • I sometimes make my own bread dough especially when we do Serbian breads, but when I'm in the mood for quick and easy there are really cheap bags of dough that you can get from Spar or Pick 'n Pay for under R10. I bought one bag which was enough to make 2 flat breads
  • I added onion cut in rings, 2 bell peppers, and mushrooms for the toppings
  • For seasoning I topped it with olive oil, course salt, black pepper, and sweet basil spice
  • We separated the dough roughly into 2 portions and rolled them out with some flour
  • Then, placed the dough on the baking tray and added the toppings
  • We cooked them on 200 degrees for 12-15min

That's it! I served it with balsamic vinegar and chilli olive tapanade. It's such a tasty meal!

One very happy customer :)

Happy Dinning!
